Tips for improving battery-life in your iPhone 3G/3Gs

December 3rd, 2010 No comments

You may notice that your iPhone 3G/3Gs battery-life is not all it used to be. If you have had your iPhone for more than 18 months you may need a battery replacement.

Apple’s website suggests the following for helping to improve your battery-life in your iPhone 3G and iPhone 3Gs.

  • Turn off Wi-Fi: If you know you’re not going to be using Wi-Fi, turn it off to save power. Go to Settings > Network and set Wi-Fi to Off.
  • Turn off 3G: Using 3G cellular network decreases battery life when in areas with limited 3G coverage. To disable 3G, from the Home screen choose Settings > Network>Enable 3G to Off.
  • Minimize use of location services: use location services only when needed. Remember to disable them after you use them.
  • Turn off push notifications
  • Fetch new data less frequently: The more often that email or other data is fetched, the quicker your battery will drain. Choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and tap Manually, to set this to manual.
  • Turn off push mail
  • Adjust brightness: Turn it DOWN!
  • Auto-check fewer email accounts: Not a problem if you fetch data manually (see above)

At Wired iRepair, we find that the single biggest battery-killer, and CPU-hog, is the Facebook app. Make sure to turn off ALL of the push notifications that are hidden in the Settings>Facebook>Push Notifications.

Please be sure to check out our article on Battery Maintenance, for tips on how to lengthen the lifespan of your battery!

Your iPhone’s battery is rated to approximately 400 full charge-cycles. For the average iPhone 3G/3GS, this is about 1.75 years. If the iPhone was used heavily, the battery may be showing signs of wear after as little as 1 year. Wired iRepair can replace your dead iPhone 3G / 3GS battery in as little as 10 minutes! Visit our store in beautiful NW Portland and have the techs at Wired install a brand-new OEM Battery in your iPhone 3G / 3Gs today!

Water Damaged iPhone 4

What to do with a Water-Damaged iPhone 4

iPhone 4 water damage repair is very tricky, and should always be left to the experts. It sometimes, though not always, results in electrical short-circuits that can destroy the phone. While this type of iPhone 4 water-damage is rare, it does happen. Wired iRepair recommends that you do the following to help minimize the liquid-damage to your iPhone 4, and help ensure that your iPhone 4 survives a swim in the pool (chlorine)….or the ocean (saltwater)…or a beer….or martini…  or you get the point :)

Please note: ***If your iPhone was immersed in a corrosive liquid like a pool, hot tub, jacuzzi, salt-water or ocean water, READ THIS ARTICLE and follow the directions.***

  1. First: DON’T PANIC! We are usually able to completely restore a water-damaged iPhone 4.
  2. The next thing is TAKE OUT YOUR SIM CARD!
  3. Now get the phone in a DRYING SITUATION.  Start with a towel-dry. Follow-up with a soak in dry rice or “gel-type” cat litter (dusty stuff is a no-no!). Silica-gel or other industrial-desiccants are better, if you have access to them.

***Wired iRepair constantly sees iPhone 4 s that have been soaked in rice for a week or more, and upon opening, we find droplets of water, still standing, on the internals of the phone. ***

CALL Wired iRepair and get your submerged iPhone 4 water damage repair done by the experts. NEVER attempt to open or repair your iPhone 4 yourself; the iPhone 4 is very delicate and easily broken.

So to sum it up:

  1. REMOVE SIM CARD!
  2. Rinse it! (if it was submerged in a liquid you suspect of being corrosive, such as chlorine, salt, chemicals, egg (it happens!), alcohol, etc)
  3. DRY IT! first towel, then rice.
  4. CALL Wired iRepair and save yourself a lot of money and hassle! We use the latest techniques, developed by forensics-experts, to save your phone, your data, and your money.

Corrosive-liquid damaged iPhone 4

What to do with a Water-Damaged iPhone 4 that has been submerged in a corrosive liquid.

Water-Damaged iPhone 4

If your iPhone 4 was immersed in a corrosive liquid like a pool, hot tub, jacuzzi, salt-water, ocean water, toilet-water, acid, cleaner, or solvent, YOU NEED TO TAKE SPECIAL ACTION IMMEDIATELY.

  1. DON’T PANIC! Time is of the essence, act fast!
  2. POWER DOWN THE PHONE.
  3. Rinse your iPhone under lukewarm tap-water.YES. We just said that.

It is far better to have “a lot” of fresh-water in your iPhone 4 than to have just a little salt-water dry-out in your iPhone! Rinse it WELL.For every 1 second it was in contact with a corrosive liquid, run it under running water for 5 seconds. Try to get the running water into all the openings of your iPhone.

Cracked Glass / Screen iPhone 3G: What to do?

cracked iPhone screen

What should you do if you have a Cracked Screen/Glass on an iPhone 3G ?

Get it fixed! It may seem obvious, but what many people don’t realize is that extra damage can occur by waiting to get an iPhone 3G cracked glass repair. Here’s Why:

  • The most common issue that can occur is damage to the fragile iPhone 3G LCD.  and then, through use of the touchscreen, glass shards can collect, and become ground into the iPhone 3G LCD.

Shards of glass cause permanent scratches in the iPhone 3G LCD that can not be removed. The only remedy is entirely replacing the iPhone 3G LCD (which is typically not necessary for an iPhone 3G screen repair Portland Oregon!). Grime and dust can make their way into the area between the iPhone 3G LCD and iPhone 3G glass, and this can be very difficult to clean without causing extensive damage to the delicate iPhone 3G LCD.

  • Also common is a deterioration of the glue that holds the iPhone 3G glass to the body of the iPhone due to oxygen-exposure .This can lead to more debris getting inside your iPhone 3G. In extreme cases, this can result in a separation of the glass from the body of the iPhone.
  • Call Wired iRepair today! We have the parts in stock, and we can perform your iPhone 3G screen repair with a genuine OEM screen in under 30 minutes! Even if you’ve waited 3 years, your iPhone 3G glass will look and feel brand new!

WHAT TO DO:

Cracked Screen/Glass on an iPhone 3Gs

Get it fixed! It may seem obvious, but many people don’t seem to realize the extra damage that can occur by waiting to get an iPhone 3Gs cracked glass repair.

The most common problem is LCD damage. Glass shards collect, and then, through use of the touchscreen, become ground into the LCD.

These glass shards can cause permanent scratches in the iPhone 3Gs LCD that can not be repaired without replacing the iPhone 3Gs LCD entirely (which is often not necessary for a typical iPhone 3Gs screen repair). Dust and grime also make their way into the space between the iPhone 3Gs LCD and glass, and this can be very difficult, if not impossible, to remove without causing damage to the fragile iPhone 3Gs LCD.

Another common-problem is deterioration of the glue that holds your iPhone 3Gs glass to the rest of the phone, due to exposure to oxygen. This deterioration can lead to even more debris getting inside your iPhone 3Gs, and in extreme cases, separation of the glass from the body of the phone.

Give Wired iRepair a call today, we can perform your iPhone 3Gs screen repair with a genuine OEM screen in under 30 minutes! Even if you’ve waited 2 years, your iPhone 3Gs will look and feel brand new!
