What to do with a Water-Damaged iPhone 4

iPhone 4 water damage repair is very tricky, and should always be left to the experts. It sometimes, though not always, results in electrical short-circuits that can destroy the phone. While this type of iPhone 4 water-damage is rare, it does happen. Wired iRepair recommends that you do the following to help minimize the liquid-damage to your iPhone 4, and help ensure that your iPhone 4 survives a swim in the pool (chlorine)….or the ocean (saltwater)…or a beer….or martini…  or you get the point :)

Please note: ***If your iPhone was immersed in a corrosive liquid like a pool, hot tub, jacuzzi, salt-water or ocean water, READ THIS ARTICLE and follow the directions.***

  1. First: DON’T PANIC! We are usually able to completely restore a water-damaged iPhone 4.
  2. The next thing is TAKE OUT YOUR SIM CARD!
  3. Now get the phone in a DRYING SITUATION.  Start with a towel-dry. Follow-up with a soak in dry rice or “gel-type” cat litter (dusty stuff is a no-no!). Silica-gel or other industrial-desiccants are better, if you have access to them.

***Wired iRepair constantly sees iPhone 4 s that have been soaked in rice for a week or more, and upon opening, we find droplets of water, still standing, on the internals of the phone. ***

CALL Wired iRepair and get your submerged iPhone 4 water damage repair done by the experts. NEVER attempt to open or repair your iPhone 4 yourself; the iPhone 4 is very delicate and easily broken.

So to sum it up:

  1. REMOVE SIM CARD!
  2. Rinse it! (if it was submerged in a liquid you suspect of being corrosive, such as chlorine, salt, chemicals, egg (it happens!), alcohol, etc)
  3. DRY IT! first towel, then rice.
  4. CALL Wired iRepair and save yourself a lot of money and hassle! We use the latest techniques, developed by forensics-experts, to save your phone, your data, and your money.

What to do with a Water-Damaged iPhone 4 that has been submerged in a corrosive liquid.

Water-Damaged iPhone 4

If your iPhone 4 was immersed in a corrosive liquid like a pool, hot tub, jacuzzi, salt-water, ocean water, toilet-water, acid, cleaner, or solvent, YOU NEED TO TAKE SPECIAL ACTION IMMEDIATELY.

  1. DON’T PANIC! Time is of the essence, act fast!
  2. POWER DOWN THE PHONE.
  3. Rinse your iPhone under lukewarm tap-water.YES. We just said that.

It is far better to have “a lot” of fresh-water in your iPhone 4 than to have just a little salt-water dry-out in your iPhone! Rinse it WELL.For every 1 second it was in contact with a corrosive liquid, run it under running water for 5 seconds. Try to get the running water into all the openings of your iPhone.

What to do: Water-damaged iPhone 3G

What to do.

The first of a series of guides to help answer the question: What to do?

First up: Water-Damaged iPhone 3G repair.

Here at Wired iRepair, we get a lot of calls from people who want to know how to deal with a water-damaged iPhone. I mean, this IS Portland, Oregon, and it DOES rain here once in a while! Worse, we occasionally receive iPhone 3G s for iPhone repair in Portland Oregon that have been mishandled after an accident and have subsequently been damaged (from electrical-shorts) beyond repair. While these incidents are rare, they do happen, so we want to give you all the tips and tricks necessary to survive a swim in the pool….or the ocean…or a beer….or… you get the point :)

Please note: If your iPhone 3G was immersed in a corrosive liquid like a pool, hot tub, or ocean water, it is highly recommended that you have your logic-board cleaned, to ensure that you don’t have problems down the line. Please let anyone who works on your iPhone 3G repair know that it involves corrosive liquids.

First thing is: DON’T PANIC! Wired iRepair is able to completely-restore 95% of the water-damaged iPhones that are brought in for service!

The next thing to remember is that water and electricity don’t mix. That means TURN OFF YOUR iPHONE 3G IMMEDIATELY! And don’t plug it in! Resist the urge to survey the damage by reminding yourself that the water isn’t the problem, it’s the mixture of electricity and water that is your enemy now. So kill the enemy by killing the power to your phone! When in doubt, do not press extra buttons and let the phone discharge itself, and if you can’t determine the power-status of your phone (due to display errors, etc), it’s always a good idea to remove the sim-card with a straightened paper-clip to prevent incoming-calls from damaging your phone.

….and remember: From this point on, the longer you wait to get the phone professionally dried and restored, the more damage that is possible to occur. This is because corrosion, aka Rust, is something that increases with time.

So to sum it up:

  • Power it down!
  • Rinse it! (if it was submerged in a liquid you suspect of being corrosive, such as chlorine, salt, chemicals, egg (it happens!), alcohol, etc)
  • Dry it in a towel!
  • Dry it in an absorbent material (like rice)!
  • Call or Stop by Wired iRepair for iPhone 3G Repair Portland Oregon, and save yourself a lot of money and hassle!
